A very common problem I've had on almost all old dodge senders is that the connection from the wiper arm to the bracket, inside the sender, is via the contact between the pivoting shaft and the hole it goes through. After 50 years, there's often enough oxidation there to make a bad connection. This can make for intermittent problems that are really frustrating. One of my trucks came with 2 old senders in the tool box in the back of the truck that I'm sure represented some previous owner's attempt to "fix" the problem. Rather than try to scrape and sand down in there and hope it stays clean, or replace it, the sure-fire permanent solution is to find some fine stranded wire that's good and flexible, make a loop of it, or coil a few turns around a pencil like a pigtail, and solder it from the wiper/float shaft to the bracket. And yes, the connection from the sender bracket to the tank and from the tank to the frame can also be a problem. If there's one thing I'll complain about with the engineering on old Dodges its that the engineers were excessively optimistic about grounds. They seemed to think that if something is screwed onto the nearest piece of metal, then it's grounded.
