I had the same issue on a 2 speed once. the sleeves are much thicker than .001. maybe put some grease on the seals. I think there is a product called seal grease. if the seals still are not happy then maybe go with NOS leather seals. presoak in light oil before installing. the leather ones have more wiggle room
