VPWs had this set of NOS rear springs in stock. They have 13 leaves vs. 14 leaves for the WM300. Also, each leaf is a little bit thinner than the WM300. However, they have nearly 8" of arch vs. 4" for the old WM300 springs.

At first, I was thinking that maybe these were for a 3/4 ton ambulance to give more clearance but a softer ride. However, Jens pointed out that each leaf is fluted (has a groove stamped in center). He says this makes them lighter weight but more resistant to flexing. Plus, I have this style on several early WDXs and a 1948 that I recently parted out so I'm sure this style was used on PWs.

I plan to clean 'em, paint 'em, and mount 'em as is. They can't be any worse than the re-arched springs I have on the truck now that have gone totally flat. We'll see how it goes.

For the front, Jens sent some nice M601 take-offs that have more arch than my redone ones (which are also flat). He advised disassembling and blasting to get the rust out between the leaves so they will actually flex. I think the V-8 and some Fluid Film may help flex them as is. Haven't decided yet.

In the process, I learned that there are at least two styles of front springs. One style has a single top leaf with bushing. Other style has a second top leaf wrapping around the bushing.

I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on springs.
