Carter E7T2 idle mixture screw adjustment.

Back from the dead here...still a problem, but getting better. Thanks to those who indicated that the idle screw might need adjusting - it was in, causing the high idle rpms. I had great hopes and I backed it off, but the mixture screw still doesn't have an impact.

Back to vacuum - I disconnected from the distributor and plugged the carb one, I had the gauge on the manifold. Anywhere else that might be leaking (carb itself has new gaskets)?

Finally, when I had the carb on the bench I expected that I would be able to see the mixture screw from the inside below the choke plate if I screwed it all the way in, but I could not. When closed down should the end be visible inside? That thing is looking kind of ratty, so I will try to replace it, but I'm not sure how tight it should fit.
