The 'missing link' is a piece of strap about 1/2" x 4-5, with a long slot in it. The slot hooks on a long pin on the carb. Other end hooks to a bent 'crank' along with the kick down rod that goes to the tranny. Opening throttle slices the pin to the back of the slot, then pushes link and rod to rear.

There is also a pretty light return spring, 4-5" long, from the crank pin to the throttle pin, to keep the long rod forward.
