You want the tranny side all the way back when the carb pin is all the way back. IIRC, I used to cut and reweld the slotted link to get the right length, shorter. But that was 30 years ago, and conversions 2bbl to 4. But I think you have the same ideer? Anyway, critical deeel is that full throttle = tranny all the way back, bend the parts if necessary. But you do need that slotted part, to allow idle as well as full.
