I agree on the shreds getting into the system. I don't go past the last two open threads of a plug/fitting for that reason. I do use the teflon in the tube to seal a particularly vulnerable plug on WO's. I use a toothpick to apply a light, thin layer to the two or three beginning threads in the plug port.
