I still use lots of teflon tape because there's always a roll in every tool box, but I find teflon pipe dope (like Harvey's) is generally better for ordinary liquids and pressures. It fills gaps better, it eventually sets up somewhat, and it's not so slippery, which makes it less likely to split fittings from over-torquing them or let parts swing around when they shouldn't. With oil lines and fuel systems, there's always a risk that shreds of teflon tape will get inside and clog things, probably with very expensive results.
