HP/weight is better for outboards, but you can't buy a core motor for $140.

Though they do need some marinised parts. Alt needs flame screens, starter needs it's head band hose clamped, mechanical fuel pump needs the broken-diaphragm bowl, and the carb needs it's external vent plugged- it needs to vent only inside the 'flame guard", that is an air filter to us landlubbers.

Plus water cooled exhaust manifolds.

All in all, a used car motor for about $1,000 in accessories beats a $12.000 inboard.
