Seneca State Forest – West Virginia
Spend an extended weekend touring the Allegheny Highlands!
Travel approximately 400 miles of secondary highways and forest service roads during the peak of fall foliage in scenic West Virginia and Virginia. Nearby attractions include: Cass Scenic Railroad, Cranberry Nature Center, Green Bank National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Snowshoe Resort, and Watoga State Park.
SCHEDULE
Friday: Depart Morgantown, WV, around 1:00pm (trailer parking available). Saturday: Trip to Cass Scenic Railroad and Highland Scenic Highway (highest major roadway in WV). Saturday night: trip to Marlinton, WV, to see Paul Asaro – Honky Tonk, Ragtime, and Jazz pianist. Sunday: Trip to Highland County, VA, “Virginia’s Little Switzerland” Hands and Harvest Festival: http://www.highlandcounty.org/ Monday; Return to Morgantown (optional return Sunday). Meals: Dinner provided Friday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. Other meals at local restaurants.
LOCATION
Seneca State Forest is located on WV Route 28, four miles south of Dunmore, WV. Also accessible from WV Route 39, five miles east of Marlinton and then 10 miles north on WV Route 28. LODGING
