4.30 ratio with 900-16's gives you an effective ratio of 3.94 in 4th gear. I have a set of these in my WC-12 with 8&3/4" postwar third members. I still have the 230 in it but will upgrade to a 236 Industrial when I get of my lazy a.. . I would think that the 4.30's would work in a FFPW with the flathead only if 1)You modify the heck out of a 230 or 2)Install a 25" 251 or better yet a 265 in it.
At 60MPH I am taching about 2450 RPM's, that's as fast as I want to go. On moderate to steep hills I need to gear down. I traded acceleration and off road ability for more road speed using the 4.30's and staying with the 230.
