If no one out there was willing to take a chance once in a while, we would not have the locking hubs, locking differentials, pickup beds, and probably 3/4 of the rest of the reproduction parts we currently have that are being made for these trucks.
I have previously been involved in a few of these projects (directly related to some of the parts currently being made for our trucks) - reverse engineering parts, acting as a go-between with production, phone calls, road trips. I never got rich, but it sure has been fun.
