I wonder if it would be cheaper to investigate a way to fit a more readily available (say dana 60 or ford 9") gear set in the 9-5/8" housing? I am guessing the problem would be the 3 bearing pinion. You migh end up losing some ultimate gear strength but maybe some combination of spacers/bearings could make something work? I hate even mentioning this but Toyota had a 9.5" ring gear in some of the land cruisers and thier differential design looks nearly identical to the chrysler design. Toyota even made a pretty good M37 look alike.
