With all three wheels pointed straight ahead, remove cap, loosen nut, counting turns, turn inner screw in until just snug, and turn it back out half as far. The should cut play in half. Cautiously test drive. Too tight and steering can lock up. Almost too tight and your arms will get sore in a mile.

Straight ahead is the tightest area, it gets looser to each side. So needs to be centered or you'll get get it too tight.

A very worn box might be OK straight, but bind when a bit to each side. Loosen it some, and it may work, but the end is nigh.
