Don't sell the engine until you have the diesel up and running. Then, if that never happens, you will have the parts necessary to put the truck back together.

I went to a guy's house. He was pulling apart a very nice old FFPW. He was cutting things and scrapping parts. I called him recently, and he'd made no further progress after more than a year.

I know you will be different (actually, I don't know that), but hedge your bets. Take the truck apart gracefully. Then, if life intervenes, you will have a truck to sell rather than pieces.

What you can get for an old engine depends on condition and completeness. But, whatever, you would get would be inconsequential considering the costs of putting in a diesel and upgrading the running gear.
