On the 75 (W600) is was sorta in front of the front axle. On the 78 & 79 (both W200 club cabs) is was a tad behind the axle & near the floorboard cab to frame mount. Some people have said they've never seen a frame VIN on 70's truck. I've never seen one without it, but I didn't check every truck I owned.
