You just don't have anywhere near the control with a plasma as you do with air arc carbons.
Like we have barges come in where hundreds of feet of cargo box wall or whatever need to be gouged off. With a good gouger, after painting you can barely see the old scabs. You have to figure with 1/2" plate welded continuous on both sides....after you cut the steel off the scab is about 1-1/2" wide! That'd just take a moons age with a plasma...not to mention the cost. Like on a job like I described we'll have maybe 10 welders gouging & each guy can just use his own machine with a $100
air arc attached.
