That's a predicament, all right. I'll be curious to hear any good suggestions. PayPal should show you his real email address and real street address, even though ebay hides that info. You could see if you could find telephone number to go with his name and street address (if he has a land line), or post the city here in case anyone on this board is in the same city and could go check on the guy.

I think if it was me, I'd refund his deposit (you can do that without his help), minus the paypal fees, report him to ebay as a non-paying bidder so as to get your ebay fee refunded, and then re-list the truck. The non-paying bidder process is automated, so he's not going to get a call from any sort of detective or anything. All that will happen is ebay will send him some reminder emails, and then after a period of time has elapsed, you can proceed to cancel the sale and get part of your fee refunded. What I would not do is keep his deposit and then sell the truck to someone else. You may be entitled, by the ebay terms of service, to keep the deposit as "liquidated damages", but it doesn't seem right to me.
