Everyone has a different way of dealing with these sad life issues but the bottom line is that mourning is just humans feeling sorry for themselves.
Having been through the exact situation as Nick with a dog with DM...Nick will have already been mourning for the past several months watching his commrad suffer.
The suffering is over & Ace is better off for it.
No need to ever forget Ace, nor try to replicate him...just a new distraction & plenty of dogs needing help...life or death kind of help.
I can't imagine life being better moping, that's for sure. Nothing's going to change what's happened to old Ace.
