Hi Jerry. I agree with your assessment. Around here we have several different soils. Most of it is glacial till, which is beneficial to dig down into with narrow tires to get traction. Some is silty river bottom land which is very fertile but sometimes the water table is only a few inches below the surface. The biggest tires with the most floatation on the lightest vehicles do the best in these areas.

I enjoyed your video link. In Davenport Iowa we have what the local news stations call the "truck eating bridge" - a railroad overpass right next to the police department. There are miles of warning signs before the bridge and multiple sets of flashing yellow lights that are activated when sensing an over-height vehicle approaching. Nevertheless, a truck hits it about once a month. The bridge has been there for over a hundred years, so it is not going anywhere - the trucks stop very quickly.

I was following an 18-wheeler flatbed loaded down with some nice new tooling framework built out of 4"x6" steel tubing. I was in the next lane over and got to watch the very top of the tooling catch the underside of the bridge by about 4". It folded over, broke all the straps, and the truck stopped in a distance of about 3 feet. I would have stopped as a witness but the driver was on a cell phone when I pulled alongside. I figured the only possibility was that he was calling in the accident and already had everything under control......so I continued on my way.
