Condenser capacitor value?

All this fuss with bad condensers. What values do they typically have? Capacitance? Voltage? Polarity? Tolerance? If we knew these values we could just order up some super cheap components from an electronics supply catalog.

I looked in the archives and the only lead was from Sherman in Idaho from last December. Can anyone confirm his values? Has anyone had success with a radioshack homemade condenser from capacitors? If the auto industry is charging too much for products that fail it's time to seek out a new source.

0.20-0.33uF?
>600V?
polarity matters?
+/- 20%?
