in ny bridges are usually marked with a couple of inches of extra clearance. in nj, they are spot on. we have parkways on long island, built buy robert moses. they were designed with low bridges to allow cars to travel to the beaches and keep nyc riff raff on busses away. it has had the unintended consequence of providing regular trailer haircuts for visiting over the road truckers and has created a cottage industry for trailer repair and tow guys!
