I took the 6V generator off my 1949 Power Wagon to a Starter-Generator shop and had them re-work it for 12V. I don't know what that entailed, and hopefully they didn't just take my money for nothing (since some of the posts say that a 6V generator will work for 12V applications). But anyway, it seems to work well, and wasn't that expensive from what I remember.
