I used to rebuild these things many years ago, mostly on performance V8's, but some used off road. If you follow the traditional book settings they are fine for on-road use, when it got to rally cars and off-road, we used to lower the float height to the lowest setting on the level gauge - it was about .025" if memory serves. On rough roads the fuel shakes about in the chamber and the high ripples can spill over, on steep climbs the fuel tends to overflow slightly also causing flooding. A lot of folk changed to the holley equivalent, but we got good results.
