Cal Fire Firefighter Struck, Killed by Pickup Truck

A firefighter with Thousand Palms (Calif.) Engine Company 35 was killed Friday morning after he was struck by a pickup truck while standing on an interstate on ramp in Palm Desert.
According to a report in a local newspaper, The Press-Enterprise, the Cal Fire firefighter was hit while standing on the Monterey Avenue on ramp of Interstate 10 at about 9:40 a.m. The firefighter, who has not been identified, was taken to the Desert Regional Medical Center where he died, the newspaper reported.
The driver, a disabled Army veteran, stopped after the crash, cooperated with authorities and consented to a blood test, the newspaper reported, but neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the mishap.
