You are so right Paul.
There have been many surveys of citizens done in the last 10 years or so. THe results with the youth are the most shocking.
Most could not even tell you what happened on July 4, or what important event in US History occurred in 1861 either.
Even more amazing is many did not even know who was on the $1 bill.
THe fact is that kids today, in many if not most schools, only receive about 10% of the content of US History as it pertains to the Founding Fathers and origin of our Country as you and I got. Influences such as an overemphasis now on math and science, "political correctness", multiculturalism and other factors have all contributed to this. The result is we have a generation of people who are historically illiterate. Along with this trait goes a lack of appreciation for the USA and a lack of patriotic feelings.
