The usual behind cab winch is a M2, the 'U' means 'underslung' for front bumper use, the M2 stands up on 'saw horses'.

So, depending on how high you want to mount it, you could build saw horses, which would necessitate the chain to gain the height. Or maybe use the MU style mounted low, and maybe a drive shaft direct from pto would suffice?

Either way, you'll need to disassemble the worm gear and re-assemble for front input. (or not? depending on pillow block location) And you'll probably want to build a remote control for the dog clutch.

Tow trucks use winches right behind the cab. But maybe a rear winch would serve you better, all the way back?
