It all depends on who had it last and how they treated it. Some were "Rode hard and put away wet" as they say, so you better put some time in looking it over before committing to any long term plans. Some will let you take it for a test drive which is always informative but you can't rely just on that. Be sure to check for a spare tire or any odd smells, you don't want any surprises.
Nagging problems will eventually show up on most all of them so that is to be expected. Most people loose the exhileration of something new after a while and are willing to give it away just to get rid of it. The newer models will impress your friends but normally they just end up costing you more. The older models will get the job done for less as a rule, just takes more patience and knowing who to work around the problems they have.
I've heard there are still some good ones out there but you'll have to look long and hard for them. Just like the old saying, "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is", applies here. Once you put your name on that little piece of paper, all the stuff you never thought about starts showing up.
I'll leave it to you to decide WHICH one I'm talking about. ;)
