M-37 fuel pump change

I put a new fuel pump on my M-37 but still do not get any gas to the carb. Do you need to prime the pump before installing....and if so, how do you prime it?

I realize there are other potential causes like a blocked line etc. Filter in tank was cleaned and looked good, but I have not checked the fuel line itself.
