The M37s and FFPWs have a very similar arrangement which is welded in place by the factory after adjustment is set. On those, there is an adjustment procedure during setup, but it is not considered something needing regular adjustment after that.

The manual states in the axle assembly section, when the carrier is removed from the axle housing:

Stick the drive gear thrust block on the rear face of the gear with heavy grease, rotate gear until hole in thrust block aligns with adjusting screw hole in the carrier. Install adjusting screw and lock nut, tighten screw sufficiently to locate thrust block firmly against back face of gear. Back off adjusting screw 1/4 turn to provide 0.010-0.015 inch clearance and lock securely with nut. Recheck to insure minimum clearance of 0.010 inch during full rotation of drive gear.
