Seems when I tried muriatic acid on a small tank it surface rusted instantly after I drained the tank. Maybe a follow up with phosphoric acid would help not sure but it literally rusted before my eyes.
Also not sure what engine you are using but zinc and diesel are not compatable. Just went to a class were Cummins said if fuel is piped through galvanized pipe your warrenty is pretty much void. Apparently it diesel dissolves the zinc and it then damages the injectors.
