i believe that if the correct nos part quality was available, that points / condenser is a no brainer. billions of miles were put on using that technology. Since the quality of consumables today is terrible, pertronix is a good alternative. I have installed them in all of my old iron and have eliminated the ignition as a source of frustration. we installed the precursor to the pertronix in over 100 delivery trucks with gm 366 engines in our family business. it virtually eliminated breakdowns due to ignition. if you have an early pertronix, the only way you can really get it to fail is to leave the ignition switch on for long periods of time. that fault was corrected on the newer units. if you install a pertronix and it fails, you have something else in your system causing the problem. some guys like the chrysler system, i do not. i have a fully rebuilt dodge dist loaded with points and condenser as a spare. much easier to replace the entire unit that try to fuss with points and condenser on the road... don't even have to change the cap and wires. just remove the dist, install the new dist in the same orientation, rough time and go.
