check the archives here. there are posts about how to reconstruct the ends and keep the cross member you have. I believe that paul in ny did one and posted pics. basically to do it right, you have to remove it from the frame. drill out all the rivets that attach it to the frame. clean the whole thing up, to do it right you need to separate the two halves. clean it all up, cardboard template the ends and fab what you need. it can be done nicely. alternatively source another and just rivet or bolt back in.
