A turn key solenoid truck might look bad if it gets hot, try a new solenoid?
Otherwise, and also, it might be a bad armature winding in the starter motor- a 'flat spot' where electricity won't flow through the burned winding. If you cranked and cranked and cranked and cranked to get it started after long storage, you may have burned up the starter. Later, the starter rotated from engaging/disengaging enough to get to a good spot.
Or maybe just bug doo-doo in the starter, and it will never happen again.
