Dear Mr. Smith:

The Petersen Automotive Museum is presenting its first ever exhibition on pickup trucks, which we have entitled: “Pickups: The Art of Utility”. We cannot envision presenting such an exhibition without a Dodge Power Wagon from the 1950s, especially if it is equipped with the Willock Swivel Frame. My purpose in writing is to ask if you would consider allowing your 1953 Dodge one-ton with the Willock system be a part of the exhibition.

By way of background, the exhibition will feature a highly select grouping of pickup trucks (both popular and obscure) from throughout motoring history whose designs embodied innovations, styling themes, and other characteristics that distinguished them in the marketplace. If we are fortunate enough to be able to borrow your Power Wagon, we will exhibit it in a way that its uniqueness can be fully appreciated and the public will not be allowed near it under any circumstances. The exhibition will open June 15 of this year and continue through Fall of next year. We have a shipping budget that will allow us to transport the truck to the Museum (and back) and we will provide you with an insurance certificate for its full value. The press is expected to be tremendous and we would be delighted to acknowledge your generosity in placing your rare truck on loan.

Needless to say, I would not expect anyone to commit one of their prized vehicles based on an email request, so I hope you will be able to find a moment to give me a call so that I can explain what we are doing in greater detail. For more information about the Petersen Automotive Museum itself, please feel free to check our website at www.petersen.org . The opportunity to present this exhibition arose recently and the timeframe is unusually tight so please do not hesitate to give me a call if I can answer any questions. I am delighted at the prospect of being able to present a vehicle as clever and fascinating as your Willock-equipped Power Wagon and look forward to hearing from you.

Very best regards,

Leslie Mark Kendall
