Hi Joe!
After this months Forum I can't tell if it will be the Veterans Day Parade or the Anti-War Parade! = )
Seriously This should be a time to reflect on the freedom that we have to come here and post our ill informed opinions. We owe that right in gratitude to the men and women who gave their lives so that we could be free and remain free. And we partly owe our ability to reflect upon that fact, and to feel sorrow, because of many others who have died tragically and much too young in life. Read the names and ages of the thousands who died in WWI and WWII, they were barely older than Anthony78PW. In Korea and Vietnam we waged war again, maybe to a cause less popular, but still many of us answered the call and again too many of us died. And thanks to the men and women of Desert Storm who inspite of the lingering shadow of Vietnam went to serve their country, and thanks to a President who learned the lesson of Vietnam and let the Generals run the show, not the politicians. That decision resulted in a swift and speedy victory with significantly lower causualties than the bleeding hearts warned us about. I wonder how differently Vietnam could have turned out if it hadn't become a political war. It seems that we sometimes spend more time complaining about things than enjoying the benefits and opportunities that this country gives to us. Part of the mystique of these old Dodges is the fact that, when the chips were down and the survival of our way of life was on the line, the best of American ingenuity and skill came to the forefront. The American worker stepped up to the plate and built a vehicle that not only drove through Europe and Asia without missing a beat, but continues to work to this day, 50 years later.
Maybe we are going to hell in a hand basket with liberalism and socialism creeping ever more into our personal freedoms, but I like our chances. We could be a lot worse off and we could be a lot more oppressed, so let's take a step back and reflect this weekend on just what got us here. Let's find what is still good about America not what is rotten. Dedication and personal sacrifice, hard work and God, that is why America is still America.
Thank you my fellow countrymen for not forgetting that, when your country called you to duty.
