The only V6 out now that would develope enuff torque for your particular application would be a 4.3 GM. And yes, these can be had without electronics. These V6s were made in a carb'ed version from 84-early 87 for some applications. And with the old style GM HEI dist, it is just one hot wire to it. The Dodge 3.9 V6 is a good engine, dont get me wrong, BUT, it simply does not develope a whole lot of torque. A good freind of mine bought a '96 Dakota Brand new with a 3.9 and auto, and It was really Doggy and slow then.

The OHV inline six would be a good idea, BUT they are too long to fit in these engine compartments without alot of modifications. Remember most OHV sixes are longer than small block V8s. THe Slant six may be short enuff to fit comfortably and I have heard of M-37's being fitted with them but have not seen one to share details with. I have long thought about a 258 AMC or even a Ford 300 six (mega torque monster) but they are just waaay too long! Also with a OHV six, you still get a torque peak at low RPM's. If you put a better gear in it and ran taller tires and even a OD than the OHV inline would be okay for street as well...But as I said before...Its the issue of fitment...
