Keep in mind that when comparisons are made of an old PW being 1/3 the cost of a house and the situation today being somewhat similar, that back in those days this was done on ONE INCOME.

Today, most couples have to BOTH work to try to stay at the same buying power that ONE wage earner enjoyed back the the good old days. And if only one of the couple works today, on average they are far, far behind.

Don't forget that tax bracketing has also taken a bigger and bigger chunk of the paycheck. In the old days you worked less than 1/5 of the year to pay your taxes. Today you work about 1/3 or worse.

Therefore, despite comparisons to the cost of housing, the trucks in reality have outstripped what most people can afford.
