I assume that you are looking at the background picture on the web site when you ask your question. I am not sure what the elevated pully was used for. I doubt that it was used for a snow plow as there are no other indications of one. It also came from an area where there are very few plows.

The whole front bumper assembly is quite strong and is a custom job. The bumper is the original which was cut and the rollers welded in. The frame was extended to allow for the winch. The extensions were butt welded to the end of the frame then a 3/8" doubler was added to the outside of the frame and extensions for strength. It is quite strong and it will not be going any where. The bumper is bolted to the extension. The pully frame was then bolted to the frame and bumper. I will not put the pully back on until I get a new winch. I have the PTO and shaft for it (SM 420 transmission).

I did get the winch that was on the truck. However it was totally destroyed. It was not a MU 2 it was a copy of some sort. It has many interchangeable parts with the MU 2. The bronze gear was split and the gear case was broken at all the mount points. Someone really pulled on something. Thankfully no deformation of the frame occurred. Some one really pulled with it and it exploded. There is no signs of a A frame on the truck. (Side Note: The winch that is on the PW had a similar problem with the bronze gear teeth being bent over and all the angle irons, frame extensions and the truck frame that it was on were badly bent.It took a massive hydrolic press and parts from VPW to put it back together)

The elevated pully does make it nice for dragging things and pulling on stuck trucks. It raises the cable up slightly which provides a little more lift to the object being moved rather that a straight horizontal pull. You can come right up to a stuck truck hook up and lift the truck slightly then pull. It helps when pulling logs around. I would not do any high load pulling with the cable strung through the upper pully as it would put quite a torque on the frame.
