The WDX parts books are vague on this subject. They do indicate, however that the doors changed part numbers shortly into 1946 at serial #83901890 (Detroit) and 88750226 (Los Angeles). Some of the door hardware, including window regulators, also changed part #'s beginning with these same serial #'s. References made to the earlier doors and parts refer only to non-vent type windows. References made to the later doors and parts refer to both non-vent and vent type. This would seem to indicate that WDX's up to #83901890 (Detroit) and #88750226 (LA) were available only without vent windows. My gut feelings tell me that the earlier door design may have been such that they would not accept vent wing windows. My '47 WDX #83903787 did not have vent wings originally, but had the proper construction to accept them. I have one door that I know to be from a civilian 2WD truck built sometime between 1939 and 1947. It does not have the proper door construction and vent wings cannot be installed in it. I have wondered about this question in the past. I would be interested to know if someone could verify if the early WDX doors also lacked the proper vent window structure.
