Somewhere in the back of one of my off road magazines I remember seeing an advertisement for a protective magnetic pad (the kind that are used to print signs on and use as sort of a rolling billboard). The ad indicated that their product could be put to use protecting vehicles from branches, etc. These were custom fit and kinda pricey. But, a local sign company might have the stuff in bulk....you cut to fit. Since the magnetic material stays on the car/truck at freeway speeds, that stuff would stay on the vehicle being towed. Price might be a bit much to deal with, but cheaper than a paint job or a covered trailer and it can be reused.
