Your getting a lot of good advice.
A long time ago I read somewhere that when your winching, put a few blankets, coats, shirts, whatever you have on the winch cable. If it breaks it acts like a sail and slows it down somewhat. An old timer told me that if it broke under a lot of stress, it could cut a man in two. It only takes a few minutes and maybe they will get dirty but might save a life.
