While Crysler was ahead in the big 3 of 4x4 and transfer case production they were not first. The founders of Four Wheel Drive Auto Company, and later Oshkosh were at least 20 years ahead with transfer cases. Then Walter was in it's own league. All of these companies built 4x4 trucks longer and in greater quanties than Dodge pre 1939.
