This story was told in the movie The Boys of Bonneville. It's a good documentary based on Salt of the Earth by Ab Jenkins with the later half told by Ab's son Marv and the current owner of the Mormon Meteor.

Ab donated the Mormon Metero III to the state museum. They did not take good care of it, so Marv pursued legal action to re-obtain the car. Marv had the car restored, and gave it back to the musuem with a stronger contract for enforing maintenance. When he was displeased again with the care of the car, he simply backed a truck up to the museum and laoaded it up. Then, he sold it to the Price Museum of Speed. Having paid good money for the car, Price obviosuyly had more interest in protecting the investment.
