those phenolic/bakelite caliper pistons were a failed idea in the 80s. they would come into the shops I worked in seized all the time. or if you tried to push them back they would get stuck half the time. I dont think any manufacturer has used them since.
you think using steel round stock would work as well as cast iron? maybe blue them in an electrolitic bath?
