I wonder if its the unibody on the cars.Its a really odd deal in my opinion and I cant narrow it down. They say the star washers really help but i have had them get slightly loose and cause problems. I have had Electronic ignition boxes go bad due to poor grounds or not work at all. I've seen those holes get opened up that the small sheet metal scews attach thing sto the fire wall and it creates a poor connection. even the slightest movement creates on again off again grounds.
I'd run a ground wire from the volt reg to the battery neg and see if it helps and then go from there. Like I said theres no real fix for it. I've swapped regs and alts with no change in the issue on my 71. Even batteries.
