There are a couple of ways to do this depending on your generator. Your best bet is to click on the PIF link, and read the paragraph under Group 16: polarizing the charging system.
Also, do a quick search on the Phil's Archives link. Enter the word "polarizing." All the information you need should be available to you to get the job done.
