I bought a "1000 pound" Harbor Freight transmission jack once. On my first attempt to use it to remove a transfer case, as soon as the jack took the weight, it slowly bent to the side and collapsed as I rolled out of the way so as not to get the T-case dropped on me. I took it back and got my money back, although the manager wasn't very happy about it. I have a couple if their heaviest floor jacks (the steel ones, not the aluminum "racing" ones) and they have held up fine for light use (probably no more than 1 ton max on a "3 ton" jack)
