Northeast of Kansas City is the town of Excelsior Springs. It was promoted as a chic health resort in the 1930's. It is a ways off the Interstate, but if you're looking for a interesting place to spend the night, The Elms Hotel has been nicely restored. If you like weird swimming pools, be sure to navigate the maze to the basement.
