Headed for Banks OR right after work today - picked up a MU2, '40s pto (outputs front and back), double-sheave tow boom, another braden winch on a husk with a reversing gear box, and a pile of shafts and levers. All of it rough, for $175. Filled up the 81 Toyota - figured it's about 500 lbs of stuff. I feel like the kid that found a manure stack next to the the Christmas tree and started digging for a pony - there's got to be a tow truck in here someplace.
So that's two decisions out of the way, for better or worse - the torch truck will get a dodge engine/transmission and will have front and rear winches. The rear boom is nothing fancy, but it'll work for what I need.
Next step is to pick the frame. Got a couple of hulks to choose from.
